Copper Country {Random}

Jul 26, 2011

A few weeks back, Patrick and I traveled to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to attend my cousin’s wedding. And if 9 years of being together has taught me anything, it’s that Patrick can’t go anywhere without getting into trouble… 😉 Don’t worry –  not real trouble – he just likes to take the road less traveled. So a few of us set off down that road with cameras in hand and wound up at an old copper mine near my grandma’s house. And old is definitely the right word for it. My great grandpa – also a photographer – actually photographed the same mine (as well as the No. 6 shaft house that USED to reside next to it, but burned down in 1956) decades earlier with film!. You know, the stuff we used back before digital photography made this artform more cost effective. I just wish I could share these photos with him and hear about how the mine used to look – maybe even enjoy a day in his old darkroom. I feel like he would have really enjoyed that – I know I would.

Beautiful sunset over the Portage Canal from my grandparent’s beach.
